Homemade Dresden valentine from my room. I love the throw and vintage Robert Allen pillows.

I love this robot and have him on display in my curio.

Tissue hearts. A couple of dabs of glue stick holds it to the glass.The adhesive wipes right off.

I the past Three issues of MSL I have had one of the items used in props. These glasses were on the January 2012 issue on the cover.

Another item from a prop. The December 2011 issue had this plastic feather ice tree. In storage in the decorating room.

They have been up for about 2 weeks and still are bright. I feared the sun would bleach them...

I love this pewter wall plaque. And another small Cosmo arrangement.

These candles are so cool.
They are from the 80s and a little Dungeons and Dragons fairy like but look right at home with a touch of whimsy.

I love these hand carved hares.
One is the top of an antique walking cane the other a bottle opener.

Another much larger candle.
Apparently when you light these eventually the wax streams from the mans eyes.

In my room I recently had Peony's and Lupines intertwined with clematis flowers.

This arrangement was on the top of my new Faux Bois table.
It cost a small fortune to ship and a tax refund to build.
Look at the rainbow that was forming on it from a sun kissed chandelier prism.

Here are some photos from the past few weeks.

It grows along the bank of the river and the whole property smells sweet for 2 weeks.

I thought distraction the better part of valor. I loathe uneven plaster walls! Washing them with layers of paint doesn't transport me to a Tuscan villa.
I rely on layers. Layers of opulence.

Either pattern on pattern with a neutral background.

Or gilt. The more the better.

Even posters need gold.

The chandelier in the dining room has paper currents and paper dollies hearts bellow.

The top of the chandelier has little cherubs playing instruments.

I put tables next to my bed for a nightstand. They all end up being covered in books. The small pine stool is where I keep water or tea to drink.

After cleaning all day I forgot to put away extension cord I was using to buff floors.My closet in the foreground is still pink!

I'm on a country patchwork kick. Its timeless.

Channeling Martha 3..

When I was 10 I discovered Martha Stewart. My mother allowed me to transform her own modest kitchen. I was sort of playing house. My mom loves the 50's so her kitchen had red checkered wall print.

Martha always had photographs around her telephones in her Westport kitchen. I followed suit.

I even had the soap bottle dispenser.

Our kitchen know still has all of my copper molds. I have the french copper owl which I would of killed for when I was 14.

I even bought the style of KitchenAid Martha had. I had to have one that said Hobart. I would reenact the segment from the original season where she makes madeleines. I would even wear a big stainless Swiss Army watch.

Utensils in crocks. Most of the utensils are almost 15 years old. Don't put them in dishwasher and they will last forever.

I love Martha's butlers pantry. The way she displays a collection is very inspiring to me.

I have been replacing the former hideous glass of this curio with these beautiful wavy panes.

The panels on the left are the former glass. It looks like water droplets all over. Its quite ugly!

This past week has been amazing! My mom says this is the first time March went out as a lamb since 84. Well I cant seem to remember but it is glorious outside. I'm also LOVING Martha on Hallmark! Everyday is like Christmas with all these beauties being re-aired!

Channeling Martha Part 2.

Everything I do has some relation to Martha Stewart.
Its like six degrees of separation. I think the only thing not is maybe video games.

I found this mirror. I was trying to emulate Martha's acanthus leaf mirror that hung in the formal dining room at Turkey Hill. MS partnership with Bernhardt offered a almost exact replica of the original. It was more of a white wash finish than luster.

This is my homage to her over mantle looking glass.

And another.

I put stacks of books everywhere. I'm running out of room. This marble table top has deep veining similar to her brown room dining table.

I have a center table like Martha's Skylands main hall table. However I noticed that in the September premier its no longer the large round table but a long faux bois table.
I also have my faux bois cachepots.

I adore Martha Stewart. I have for over 10 years! I can't tell a co workers who won dancing with the stars but I can reenact every scene word for word of the Martha Stewart Living show. Well at least the first 4 seasons before it became a daily show. I also notice tons of details. My most recent was in the original Martha Stewart Christmas book on page 100 and 101 the photo of her Turkey Hill library If you look very closely at the crease of the book at the window you see a little elf on the window sill. It appeared years later on her blog of holiday decor behind her Noahs arch. Its neat to think she had that elf for all those years.

I love my new high backed sofa. I chose the fabric and leg after Marthas brown room Sheraton style sofa in Bedford. But the high back is an homage to Turkey hill. I also have a faux throw draped on the back.
At her Turkey Hill home in the north parlor she had a high backed settee. It was the first thing you saw when you entered the room. I bought one made not of damask but English chintz. Its the first thing you see when you open my bedroom door.

Christmas Decorating..

After the mess of the Thanksgiving meal, the next day is all out Christmas. Black Friday for my family is the day we buy our tree and begin decorating.

My new sofa arrived Thursday. It takes longer for custom furniture but its worth it!

It has a high back with a Chippendale leg.

I always cover the back with something. Here is an old damask throw. It was nice to hear Bunny Williams say that she does also on a recent episode of The Martha Stewart Show. Plus to have read that Kevin Sharkey is thinking of painting his apartment khaki. The former sofa will go to my mom.

Since birth I have wanted to be a housewife. I have always loved everything domestic related. That's why I adore Martha Stewart so much. The excitement I feel for things like a teapot or couch or even a vacuum cleaner, I would hope is similar to her feelings as well. When I was a child and fell in love with vacuums you would think it would be a phase and pass.
Years later it only resonated into the love of houses and everything that goes on inside them.
The first Electrolux I remember vividly! I bought this one on eBay years later. The one I remember had the power nozzle in the back of the photo with the smaller top so I had to find one that matched.
The Olympia. Still my favorite!!
The beautiful epic series.
I never use this one. It has been used less than 5 times.

Because I am a child of the 80's, I love all this stuff!

My attempt to make it presentable and stylish is to put it in an antique federal cabinet with a mercury glass back.
The top holds part of my collection of paris porcelain reticulated compotes.

Curio Cabinet

In the January 2003 issue of MSL on page 54 there is a great article on curio cabinets. In my aunts house as long as I can remember there was and still is a huge antique corner cupboard filled with all kinds of stuff. From antique dolls to chein toy banks and wind up animals.
To house my collection of Lara Croft I have it in a large 2 door china cabinet. I know Martha displayed Steiff animals.I don't know how she would feel about molded plastic, But mixed with antique french porcelain it works in my room.
It's a lot to dust and would look excessive, but somehow having it in a cabinet with doors makes it art.At least to me.

Remote Detailing.

After the basic Windows,Walls,Ceilings, and Floors are done.I do everything in between.Like detailing the remote controls.If you play video games chances are you may like foods like cheese puffs.Even if you don't these items get filthy.Where do you think it ends up?
I use a cut up old credit card or membership card.It fits into the tight spots.
New batteries,Compressed air and either alcohol or Windex.Q tips also work.
The sharp edge of the plastic removes months of grime.It sounds gross but I clean mine often and they still collect debris.
Compressed air in the buttons help dislodge dust.

Watching Martha today she made a lilac bouquet.I also did recently using a soup tureen.Instead of using floral tape I use wire frogs.After a few lilacs you don't even need any support.

I love flower frogs.I have several.They make me happy.

After working a six day stretch I felt like getting outside.No painting today.At the very end of the property across the lake there was a clump of daffodils in the distance.

I tried feeding the geese some lunch but they protested.I did however manage to sink half a loaf of bread in the creek.

I stumbled across several clumps of iris.I used the useless bread bag to mark them for my return.

Many groundhog holes.How did the four Pevensie children ever fit into one?

They sure are diggers.It makes it EXTREMELY hard to coerce a small dog out of one backwards.Which is why I brave this walk alone.

This is one of many items I will have to pick up thought the summer from careless people.

My room is coming along.Some walls are pink some are gray.I love it!! I find I am not missing the pink at all.The other night I was looking at MSL May 2007.Martha's skyland pink cottage guest house is beautiful.But I need a change.

Living in a huge mess.Plus It smells like new paint.
I am also painting my bed frame a shade of gun metal gray.Gray is actually really soft.

Midlands gray has more purple in it than I thought.I'm a little worried.I have moved on from trim for now.The book case is reinstalled with all the books.I forgot how many I have till I had to relocate all of them.Not to mention the whole back catalog of MSL magazines.Heavy lifting! Now the books are back and the 2nd coat of midlands gray is up.

It looks rough but It will be brilliant!!I tried taping all the windows off before and the tape is a mess.I use a knife to remove the paint and 000 steel wool to clean the brass.I do tape off the hinges.

My bedroom door.
The brass hardware removed and being painted.Its a lot of work.With my bedroom over 600 square feet I will be busy for some time.Its hard to really see the color but if you look where the door knob goes you can see the difference compared to the previous white.Three more doors what seems like miles of trim and of course all the walls.

I own hundreds even maybe at least a thousand books.They have taken over everywhere.I have a floor to ceiling built-in bookcase.But they still have covered everything from nightstands to my desk.Even my ottoman holds books.I love Martha's technique of having piles of books everywhere.Did you notice her first post on the daily wag the photo of Laura Plimpton, Christine O'Neill, and Eliad Laskin has a table laden with books in the background next to the fireplace.I also see it in a lot of homes in paris from all the books I have studied .

It dosent look like alot of books.Until you lose one or buy the same one twice.

I love these paté terrines or game casserole dishes.Some are antique Pillivuyt, some are new aplico but all are beautiful.My sister and mom are terrified of them.They find the hares glaring eyes from the en croute pastry crust dish a little frightening!

The boars head and wild pig are soup terines from portugal.They are actually Bordallo Pinheiro majolica originals

My cherished covered wedgwood doves dish.It is similar to the one Martha used in the formal parlor at Turkey Hill when it was featured in September of 1999.If I liked paté I would use these since they are more utilitarian that their antique cousins.

I don't collect for the sake of a collection.I collect for the information.I don't have Kmart sales kits or banners.But where books,video,and media are concerned I have a plethora.

My collection of MSL is on a bookshelf.The issues are in turn protected by my books.

I painted my room a garish shade of pink almost 5 years ago..
At the time I was young and was more set on having a pink room than painting it a color that would complement all my possessions.I have decided to Re-paint my room.I'm thinking of Martha Stewart midlands gray (ms172) for the walls and tadpole (ms200) for the trim.I'm going to also downsize in the items I currently have on display.Here are some photos of my room from December.

Some of my favorite indulgences in aromatherapy are simple things like fresh coffee.Or raspberries.But the delicious blend of bergamot, rose and wild berries.Or Henri Bendles fig oil.But the smell I cannot live without is fireside.Yankee candle has a great fireside 22oz. jar.And any Diptyque candle is heaven,especially Feus de Bois.However candlepeak.com has fireside candle scent.When poured into a burner its aromatic bliss.It complements every season.
